Image Analysis in Earth Sciences

Graduate level text book for researchers and students working with earth materials. It uses worked examples and typical earth science imagery from a wide range of sources (digital photography, light and electron microscopy, etc.). The book focuses on image analysis, extraction of objects (segmentation), analysis of shape and size distributions, fabric analysis (particle and surface fabrics), texture analysis, orientation imaging (optical and EBSD). It features separate text boxes with background information, theory, etc and is based on the free software Image SXM.
