Ultrasound and Carotid Bifurcation Atherosclerosis

Beschreibung
Carotid Atherosclerosis and Ultrasound will provide a comprehensive overview of the most recent advancements in ultrasound image processing and analysis of carotid plaques, and how these may affect clinical management.
The book consists of 40 chapters, grouped into five sections. The first section discusses the pathophysiology of carotid bifurcation atherosclerosis and related symptomatology. The second section covers ultrasound image instrumentation, measurements, processing, analysis and automation. The third section deals with validated and emerging ultrasonic and other biomarkers associated with early atherosclerosis as detected and measured with ultrasound. The fourth section covers late atherosclerosis, grading of internal carotid stenosis, the significance of echolucent plaques and markers associated with the latter; also what has been learnt from MRI and PET plaque characterization. The final section focuses on clinical or potential clinical applications indicating how the methods described in previous sections could be applied for the benefit of both clinician and patient
