A Long View of Research and Practice in Operations Research and Management Science: The Past and the Future examines the history of major technologies in OR/MS which have technically enabled and transformed us as a society. For example, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Information and Communication Technologies (computers, telecommunications, Internet, mobile telephones), Military OR/MS, Math Programming, Modeling (model development and modeling languages) biographical accounts tied to specific discoveries, and other domain topics. The articles in the handbook are written by leading figures (academics and practitioners) in OR/MS. These articles are unique because they are written from a "long perspective" viewing the developments in the field over decades, linking incremental research, implementations, findings, etc. into a narrative of advances within a domain. In addition, these kinds of "long perspective" articles do not appear in journals and are rarely treated in any book.
